The objective of Te Pae Matarau is to provide insightful data for and about those who participate in the screen sector to inform future policy, research and funding decisions.
Te Pae Matarau - The Everyone Project Aotearoa
Te Pae Matarau – The Everyone Project Aotearoa is a survey tool that monitors the make-up of the New Zealand screen sector workforce.
Who is behind Te Pae Matarau?
The project has been funded and created by the three screen funding agencies - NZ On Air, the NZ Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho. Working together creates efficiency and a broader view of the screen workforce than we can achieve on our own.
Why is Te Pae Matarau needed?
New Zealand has not previously collected consistent screen workforce data across roles and productions. By gathering this data we can identify workforce trends, which will help to support more targeted investment in workforce training, capability-building and development initiatives. It also provides powerful data to inform government policy and future research. Insights from Te Pae Matarau will be shared with the screen sector. This will allow representative organisations to use learnings from Te Pae Matarau in their advocacy and decision-making.
How does it work?
Productions funded by any of the three agencies are required to register details of their production with Te Pae Matarau and provide a full cast and crew list. Cast and crew are asked to complete the survey which takes about 2 minutes. Each time cast and crew are named in future production lists, their data is added to that production’s cast and crew profile without needing to complete the survey again. However cast and crew will be prompted once a year to check their information is still up to date.
Other productions that have not been funded are also welcome to participate - the broader the data set the more reflective it will be of the industry.
Who will see the information?
The privacy of individuals is protected, as all data is anonymised. Key research personnel at the three funding agencies will be able to see an aggregated dashboard of data. From this we can compile reports which will be published on our websites.
