December round overview

Our December funding round has now closed - this round is primarily for production applications intended to appeal to general audiences.

Our funding team is now busy assessing 95 submissions seeking up to $31m in funding.

Thank you to everyone who submitted applications to this round. Applicants should expect to be notified from the 2nd of December.

These dates are for our four funding streams, Scripted, Factual, Platforms and Music.

Changes to our Standard Funding Agreement

For the past three months NZ On Air has been consulting over changes to our Standard Funding Template.

As of Monday 12 October, Scripted and Factual Productions are being contracted on our updated standard terms and conditions which can be found here.

Welcome to the team

Yvette Waikari (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou, Tūwharetoa, Waikato-Tainui)

We are delighted to announce that Yvette Waikari will be joining the NZ On Air Funding Team on a fixed-term Funding Advisor contract.

Yvette is a passionate music and arts practitioner and an advocate for the Māori creative sector. Her background includes nine years at Te Māngai Pāho, founding Activation Manager at Indigenous Design and Innovation Aotearoa for Wellington’s first Āpōpō CreativeTech Hub, and many years of management experience in the music industry, both here and abroad.

She will be working four-day weeks (Mon-Thu) in order to carry on her music mahi, and her Funding Advisor role will primarily focus on COVID-19 Additional Funding Relief applications and assisting the team on the COVID-19 Capability Funding initiatives and applications.

Gabrielle Smith

We're also thrilled to welcome to the team Gabrielle Smith, who has been employed in a new Researcher role.

Gabrielle is here from the UK and in her last role for the British Film Institute was a Filmography Diversity Researcher exploring on-screen diversity and representation. She also has research experience in children's media content and worked closely with the CMC.

One of Gabrielle's first jobs will be to augment the Diversity report with a study of onscreen diversity. She will also be supporting our strategic workstreams, such as the children's and youth content focus areas.

Earlier this year TVNZ OnDemand, Re: and NZ On Air issued a request for proposals for one-off documentaries to form part of new anthology series Young And...

Six compelling documentaries which each reflect unique rangatahi experiences have now been selected. Congratulations to the following productions:

Christmas office dates

This is important if you need to be paid!

Our office will be closed from 5pm Wed 23 Dec to 8am Mon 11 January 2021 while we all have a breather and find some sun.

Our last payments for 2020 will be made on 17 December. All paperwork must be received by 5pm 14 December. Our first payments for 2021 will be on 14 January.
