Factual Roadmap

We have today published our new Factual Roadmap which sets out our approach to allocating production funding through the Factual stream of the NZ Media Fund. (In the same way we have previously for Scripted and Development.)

Thank you to everyone who took the time to be involved in the Factual summit held in March, and to provide feedback on the summary we released last month.

With your valuable input we have created the Factual Roadmap, which we encourage you to read here.

The roadmap is effective from 1 July - so it will be applied to our consideration of Factual applications in the current round.

Aaaand we're off!

Applications for the first funding round of the new financial year are now closed and our funding team is busy assessing a large number of excellent projects.

In total we received 227 Scripted and Factual applications, 5 Industry Development, 18 New Music projects and 8 Digital-first Music features.

Of the Scripted and Factual applications:

  • 58 Factual
  • 13 Scripted
  • 10 Regional Media
  • 16 Development applications
  • 130 children's content for HEIHEI (first stage of two stage process which is actually part of the September round)

For this round we have earmarked roughly $16m for Scripted content and $9m for Factual content.

Raupapa Whakaari Series Drama Lab underway

This week is an exciting week for the creative teams behind the 10 projects chosen for the Raupapa Whakaari Series Drama  Lab.

They are working with a group of top international advisors to shape their stories for global and domestic audiences.

Raupapa Whakaari: Drama to the World is an initiative from the New Zealand Film Commission and NZ On Air delivered in conjunction with Script to Screen. The initiative supports 10 talented New Zealand writer/producer teams to develop distinctive, high-end scripted series with international and domestic appeal.

The 10 teams have received initial development of $10,000. Following the Series Drama Lab and submission of the re-worked projects, four teams will be selected to receive additional development funding of up to $80,000 each.

You can find out more about the international advisors taking part  here.
