Budget 26/27
As announced in Budget ’26, NZ On Air’s funding allocation for the financial year 26/27 year is $102,697,000, a reduction of 2 percent on the previous year, with these funds reallocated into other Government priorities. (This figure excludes RNZ and the Game Development Sector Rebate.)
We note that funding of $185.3m (over four years) secures the future of the domestic Screen Production Rebate and there's been a boost for Te Māngai Pāho.
We are modelling how to apply our baseline reduction with the ultimate goal to cause as little pain as possible for content creators and platforms, and as little impact as possible on audience outcomes.
Whilst we are a lean organisation with just 4 percent of the overall budget used for admin, we will be looking for savings where we can. However, it is likely that reductions in funding will need to be applied across much of what we do.
Next month we will publish our Statement of Performance Expectations for 2026/27 where we will detail our budget and plans for the year ahead.
Reo Māori Content co-fund
The Te Māngai Pāho - Irirangi Te Motu | NZ On Air Reo Māori Co-Fund will open for applications next week on 4 June.
This fund is seeking proposals for high quality Scripted, Scripted Development and Non-Fiction reo Māori screen content for a broad audience. Once again, the priority of the round is to support Scripted Māori projects that neither agency can fund alone.
The joint co-fund, which will distribute approximately $8m, will close on 27 August 2026, with successful applicants announced on 30 October 2026.
To find out more about the co-fund, check out the Te Māngai Pāho website.
