NZ On Air is celebrating another outstanding year for Aotearoa music and congratulates the winners and nominees of the 2026 Aotearoa Music Awards, held last night at Tāmaki Makaurau’s Civic Theatre.
A large contingent of this year’s finalists were supported by NZ On Air’s music funding to create, promote and share their music with audiences. This year 70 percent of the finalists were funded by NZ On Air, demonstrating how important funding is to the success of the sector.
The annual Aotearoa Music Awards showcase the breadth, creativity and global reach of New Zealand music, with artists spanning genres and generations recognised for their impact both here and internationally.
NZ On Air Head of Music Teresa Patterson says the strength of this year’s nominees and winners reflects the breadth of talent in Aotearoa’s local music scene.
“The Aotearoa Music Awards are a special moment to acknowledge the talent, hard work and ambition behind our artists as well as the teams supporting them. It’s exciting to see New Zealand music continuing to connect with audiences at home and around the world.”
As well as supporting the Aotearoa Music Awards as a broadcast partner, NZ On Air is also proud to be the sponsor of a number of award categories that highlight key areas of artistic achievement and audience connection.
NZ On Air would like to extend its warmest congratulations to the following NZ On Air-sponsored award recipients:
- NZ On Air Te Tino Pukaemi o te Tau | Album of the Year – Marlon Williams, Te Whare Tīwekaweka
- NZ On Air Te Taumata o te Ataata | Best Music Video Content – Stella Reid, Scared Old Men (Dick Move)
- NZ On Air Te Taumata o te Horapa | Radio Airplay Record of the Year - RIIKI REID, Over Romantic
These awards reflect NZ On Air’s continued focus on supporting New Zealand music across radio, digital platforms and live audiences, helping artists to grow sustainable careers and reach new listeners.
“Behind every song is a story of collaboration, creativity and persistence. We’re proud to play a part in helping those stories be heard,” says Patterson.
From emerging talent making their mark to established artists continuing to evolve their sound, the 2026 awards highlight a depth and diversity of Kiwi music.
NZ On Air extends its congratulations to all winners and nominees, and acknowledges Recorded Music NZ for delivering another memorable celebration of Aotearoa music.
