NZ On Air performs a wide range of functions but its primary role, in accordance with the Broadcasting Act 1989, is as a funding agency.
We are committed to making sure all local programmes and broadcasting services reflect and develop New Zealand identity and culture. In the 2007/2008 financial year, funding of $112.5 million has been allocated to these outcomes.
Our funding is roughly divided as follows:
In the May 2007 Budget the Government announced additional funding to enable NZ On Air to maintain the television budget at a level that allows strategies developed over the past few years to be sustained. Funding for Radio New Zealand, through NZ On Air, was also increased to enable the broadcaster to maintain its current standards and enhance its programming.
