Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero (SA/NTK) Selection and Acquisition Services includes:

- A minimum of 50% of such archive material selected by SA/NTK (excluding historical category material) is to be from radio broadcasters other than Radio New Zealand Limited including (but not limited to) commercial, student, access, Pacific Island and Māori.
- Ensuring that material sampled off air includes examples of all-day transmission from a range of radio broadcasters (as well as samples of shorter duration).
- Acquiring broadcast radio programmes by recording directly off-air or by seeking deposits directly from the broadcaster.
- Ensuring that SA/NTK's Collection master material is stored to internationally agreed master standards and if necessary a listening copy is made for access purposes.
Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero (SA/NTK) Preservation Services includes:
- Preserving archival recordings that are assessed as requiring media migration in order to ensure their accessibility to future generations of New Zealanders.
- Ensuring that preservation copies are made using appropriate media in line with internationally accepted professional practice. Where only original recordings exist, SA/NTK ensures that the equipment required for accessing these recordings is maintained until such time as migration to new media is possible.
- Protecting SA/NTK's Collection master material against loss and degradation.
- Storing SA/NK's Collection in secure storage with appropriate environmental controls in accordance with generally accepted international professional archiving practices.
Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero (SA/NTK) Permanent Accessibility Services includes:
- Implementing and maintaining finding aids, indexes, inventories, catalogues and other guides to SA/NTK's Collection in accordance with generally accepted international professional archiving practices.
- Ensuring SA/NTK's Collection is available for public access, on a cost-recovery basis.
- Being responsible for handling all public access enquiries for SA/NTK's Collection.
- Managing public access to SA/NTK's Collection so as to ensure that it does not jeopardise the preservation status of any master material.
- Ensuring that, where necessary, documentation which supports archival material is collected by SA/NTK.
- Ensuring a broad selection of material which is likely to be of historical interest in New Zealand is obtained, preserved and made accessible.
