Application guidelines and resources

Before you apply, please be familiar with our strategy for investing, outlined in the NZ Media Fund strategy document, and our high level goals set out in the Statement of Intent and Statement of Performance Expectations.

We publish guidelines for each round so that you know what we are looking for. General guidelines, round guidelines, application requirements and assessment templates are available below and are also in Eric.

So we can be as fair and transparent as possible, we assess proposals using a tough, comparative process based on our strategy and current priorities. Please look at the two template assessment documents to see how we will evaluate your proposal.

We are also accepting applications in this round for Regional Media projects. The deadline for these applications is 7 June at 4pm.

Information for platforms and content producers

The documents below are for your reference so that you understand how we will assess applications and what information we need from content producers and platforms.

What we fund

We make funding decisions under the Broadcasting Act and in line with our funding strategy.

We look for:

  • Quality  - NZ audiences enjoy well-made local content that matters
  • Diversity - NZ audiences value local content made for a range of communities
  • Discoverability - NZ audiences can find and appreciate local content

Content Development

Development funding is for researching or writing scripts or treatments. We mostly contribute to drama; and occasionally to documentary development.

At the end of 2016, to extend the range of scripted drama and comedy development projects we revised our development criteria to provide a pathway for a limited number of eligible projects to access first-stage development funding without the support of a platform.

Please read the Development Roadmap below before completing an application through Eric.

Request for Proposals

From time to time, if we have detected a gap in content, we may go to the market to seek the content we require. In these cases we issue a Request For Proposals (RFP).

There are no RFPs currently open.
