Radio New Zealand consists of three radio networks. As well as the NZ On Air-funded Radio New Zealand National and Radio New Zealand Concert, Radio New Zealand also runs the AM Network that broadcasts Parliament.
Radio New Zealand also has a shortwave radio service - Radio New Zealand International that broadcasts to the Pacific Islands. Radio New Zealand International is currently primarily funded by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
And Radio New Zealand owns and runs a radio archiving service - Sound Archives/Ngā Taonga Kōrero.
Radio New Zealand National carries a broad range of programmes - mainly news, current affairs, and other talk programmes.
Radio New Zealand National broadcasts on the FM and AM bands around the country. It reaches about 97% of the population (although it is also available on the Sky Television satellite service - Sky Channel 501 - which means than it is available to 100% of the population) and broadcast on Freeview channel 50.
Radio New Zealand Concert is Radio New Zealand's fine music network, broadcasting the best in classical music and contemporary music and spoken features about the music world.
Radio New Zealand Concert broadcasts via 33 FM transmitters around the country and reaches about 92% of the population (although, like National Radio, it is also available on the Sky Television satellite service - Sky Channel 502 - which means than it is available to 100% of the population) and broadcast on Freeview channel 51.
NZ On Air funding for Radio New Zealand National and Radio New Zealand Concert in 2007/2008 is $29.074 million. We also fund the Sound Archives/Nga Tāonga Kōrero.
The AM Network is not funded by NZ On Air - the parliamentary broadcasts are funded by Parliament.
