An engaging way to learn New Zealand Sign Language
Sign Ninja is a fun interactive game that brings an innovative approach to Sign Language learning.
Aimed at 7 to 12 year old children, the game starts with the Sign Ninja Story which is about imagining a world without spoken words, where people communicated with their hands, using New Zealand Sign Language.
Through the game you can experience this secret underground world for yourself and start your journey to become a New Zealand Sign Language Sign Ninja!
Have fun learning the NZSL finger spelling alphabet and lots of vocabulary as well as the history of this beautiful and unique language as you navigate your way through the tunnels and halls of the Sign Language Labyrinth to find the Great Hall of Communication.
Sign Ninja was funded through the Digital Media Fund Kickstart.
NZ On Air funding: $142,000
Produced by Deaf Aotearoa
Sign Ninja is a fantastic tool for the deaf community - and particularly for the friends and whanau of deaf people, to be able to start learning the basics of NZSL. We see this project as an excellent opportunity to reach an audience that is not so well served by mainstream media and to be able to have a real impact on a community.
Sign Ninja caught our attention through its innovative approach to sign language learning, and through the potential for this game to develop into an even richer and more valuable resource for the NZ deaf community.
