Animation and comedy from musical twins Kowhai and Monty Hook
Hook Ups is a cartoon about musical twins Kowhai and Monty Hook. Originally a comic-strip, this animated webseries follows the siblings as they live out the metaphors, tensions and clichés of the music industry from their home in Aroha Bridge. With big dreams and bad judgement, the hilarious pair never seem to get a break. In 2015 the series was renamed Aroha Bridge and a second season received funding through the webseries fund.
The series is created and written by Jessica Hansell (aka musician Coco Solid). Hansell also voices the character Kowhai along with Rizvan Tu'itahi (Monty), Scotty Cotter (#1 fan and cousin Ira), Madeleine Sami (hippy Mum) and Frankie Stevens (their excessively macho ex-vet Dad).
The project also includes composed music by Disasteradio, Coco Solid, Sam Moore and Jizmatron.
NZ On Air funding: $44,950
Produced by: Fumes Productions
Producer: Carthew Neal

10 x 3 min episodes were originally broadcast via the NZ Herald in 2013. The series had an accompanying iOS app that allowed users to collaborate to make music for the series.
The series was extensively promoted on social media and created collectible bubblegum cards to accompany new episodes.
Users of the iPhone app created sound tracks for future episodes - this multiplatform aspect provided an extra dimension to the project. Moving the audience from one platform or device to another proved to be difficult and continues to be difficult for many projects.
Throughout the 10 week period that the episodes were published they received over 60,000 engagements across NZ Herald, YouTube and other social media, with many more since.
