Following the day-long drama symposium at the end of July, NZ On Air is now looking for submissions on the main points to come out of the day, to inform the development of drama funding policy.
NZ On Air Documentary Strategy Paper (October 2003) [PDF DOWNLOAD 100KB]
In line with its five-year strategic plan (2003 - 2008), the Board of NZ On Air has been examining all of its areas of interest to assess whether its actions in each area are still relevant and, if so, how outcomes can be improved. This paper presents the NZ On Air Documentary Strategy, in line with the broad strategic direction of NZ On Air. It has been drafted following the Documentary Symposium and in light of subsequent feedback and discussion.

The Board of NZ On Air has also been examining children's programming.This paper "Space For The New" updates NZ On Air's Children's Funding Strategy and brings it into line with the broad strategic direction of NZ On Air.
Post-election Briefing Information (August 2002) [PDF DOWNLOAD 154KB]
Following the election, NZ On Air provided the new Minister of Broadcasting, Hon Steve Maharey with briefing notes on the current environment for the broadcasting funding agency.

Kick-start: Models for International Marketing (July 2002) [PDF DOWNLOAD 80KB]
A discussion paper entitled Making and Marketing New Zealand Television Programmes was presented at industry seminars in December 2001. Much of that paper became NZ On Air policy on 1 January 2002.
Consultation seminars were held in late May 2002 to discuss Kick-start, a discussion paper on the two initiatives:
Models for an International Marketing Fund Policy
Back Catalogue Revaluation
As a result of the consultations, and feedback, several changes have been made to the initiatives, these Kick-start guidelines replace the discussion paper.
Making and Marketing Television (January 2002) [PDF DOWNLOAD 40KB]
A discussion paper summarising a proposed new approach to NZ On Air's financial assessment of projects. The paper also proposes new approaches to our equity position in projects and to project development, including marketing.
Drama Strategy (August 2000) [PDF DOWNLOAD 52KB]
NZ On Air's drama strategy provides broadcasters and producers with an understanding of NZ On Air's objectives for locally made drama programming on television.
NZ On Air's goal in supporting the production of local drama is to promote an increasing number of diverse, innovative drama programmes that reflect and foster the different expressions of New Zealand's cultural identity and serve the needs of viewers as citizens, not simply as consumers.
NZ On Air's drama strategy paper discusses our specific drama objectives, strategies for obtaining a sustained and consistent presence of popular New Zealand drama on screen, and action points for moving forward.
Children's Programming Strategy (June 2000) [PDF DOWNLOAD 34KB]
In June 2000, NZ On Air put forward a paper indicating its objectives for children's programming, and a strategy for achieving them. It sought input from the television industry. The paper identified NZ On Air two key objectives in its funding of children's programming:
1. NZ On Air will take a leadership role in providing a safe, quality programming environment for New Zealand children of all ages by promoting an increasing number of diverse, innovative children's programmes that reflect and foster the different expressions of New Zealand's cultural identity and serve the needs of children as citizens, not simply as consumers.
2. NZ On Air will consult and communicate with children's programming stakeholders and provide them with research relevant to children's programming.
The paper identifies NZ On Air's specific children's programming objectives and strategies for achieving these. It culminates in a series of action points.
NZ On Air's Priorities for Funding Children's TV (October 2000) [PDF DOWNLOAD 17KB]
In October 2000, NZ On Air's published its priorities in considering applications for children's television programmes. The priorities were developed in consultation with the television industry - guided by the strategy document released in June 2000 - and based on research into children and young people's attitudes to television.
