NZ On Air congratulates the winners of tonight’s NZ Television Craft Awards for the top quality behind-the-scenes work that has created two masterful pieces of television.

The Jean Batten biopic, Jean, won eight categories of the craft awards, while the Sunday documentary Born This Way: Awa’s Story won the remaining two categories. Both were funded by NZ On Air and screened on TVNZ 1.

“Both Jean and Awa’s Story demonstrate the skill, creativity and mastery in our screen production sector. Whether it be camerawork, editing, cinematography, soundtrack, costume, make up – all of these skills are fundamental to creating quality content for our screens,” said NZ On Air Chief Executive Jane Wrightson.

“We congratulate Lippy Pictures led by Donna Malane and Paula Boock, and Ruckus led by Arwen O’Connor and Mitchell Hawkes for their excellent work on these two award-winning projects.”

The list of finalists for the NZ Television Awards, to be presented on 30 November also reveals no less than 55 finalists from content supported by NZ On Air.

“We are delighted that our funding has enabled the production sector to give NZ audiences such an array of diverse, quality content on television and online,” said Ms Wrightson.
