NZ On Air is proud to sponsor the VNZMA Critics' Choice Prize again in 2016.
The Critics' Choice Prize was established by Recorded Music NZ in 2010 as a lead up event to the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. The prize was set up to recognise up and coming artists and future Tui award winners.
Since the beginning, NZ On Air has provided part of the prize package for the winner, by the way of a recording and video grant. (This year that is an $8,000 New Music Single grant for a recording and/or accompanying music video for the song of choice.)
This year, as well as still providing the New Music Single grant, NZ On Air is thrilled to come on board as the sponsor.
'Discovering exciting new artists is such an important part of what we all love about working with NZ music, and it’s always a truly great honour for NZ On Air to be involved with the Critic’s Choice Prize.'
- David Ridler (Head of Music)
Every year a panel of 13 industry experts select 3 emerging acts, who have not yet released an album or been a finalist at any stage for the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. These artists perform a 30minute set in front of the panel and other industry guests in the hope of becoming the next Critics' Choice Prize winner.Previous winners of this prestigious award are - Street Chant (2010), Kimbra (2011), Watercolours (2012), Sheep, Dog & Wolf (2013), Randa (2014) and Bespin (2015).
This year the Critics' Choice Prize will be held at The Tuning Fork at Vector Arena on Wednesday 2nd of November.
