Record labels Dawn Raid and Arch Hill both celebrate 15 years in the game in 2014 with anniversary shows. NZ On Air has been proud to support artists signed to these labels over the past 15 years.
South Auckland record label, Dawn Raid, was started in 1998, by Danny ‘Brotha D’ Leaoasavaii and Andy Murnane.
Brotha D and Andy met at marketing school and were fast friends. Early on they found they both had a strong passion for music, marketing and South Auckland. Starting a club night in Manukau, they brought the community together to celebrate local artists. At the same time, they started making t-shirts and selling them at the Otara flea market, with great success.
That passion went on to see them grow the t-shirt business, as well as sign and develop some of New Zealand’s finest Pacific artists. They have achieved multiple Platinum albums and many awards. Dawn Raid has seen good times and bad but 15 years on, they are stronger than ever.
Over the past 15 years, Dawn Raid have been responsible for discovering artists such as Aaradhna, Savage, Che Fu, Adeaze and Ill Semantics to name a few.
To mark their anniversary Dawn Raid are planning five shows at the end of May 2014. Two shows in New Zealand and three more in Australia and will feature Aaradhna, Savage, Che Fu, Deceptikonz and many more.

Arch Hill Recordings is an indie record label, set up to support and promote good New Zealand music and is home to some of New Zealand’s most creative and alternative musical minds.
Arch Hill Recordings was originally a co-operative between Ben Howe, Dave Mulcahy, Greta Anderson and Jim Laing, who all recorded at the studio. In 2001, Ben Howe took control of the label and remains in charge today.
Some of the artists signed to Arch Hill are Don McGlashan, The Clean, David Kilgour, Surf City, Jean Paul Sartre Experience, Superette, Ghost Wave and Doprah.
Arch Hill celebrate their 15th Anniversary with a party held at The Kings Arms in Auckland, Friday May 30. With performances from Don McGlashan, Doprah, Ghost Wave, Street Chant, Surf City, Tiny Ruins and Transistors.
