Our Funding Strategy
Overview
The new NZ On Air music mission is to connect great NZ songs and videos with the audience via broadcast and digital platforms. We also invest in NZ music programming on broadcast outlets as varied as music TV, commercial radio, the Student Radio Network and Kiwi FM.
Funding for Musicians
The single-track funding scheme MakingTracks provides funding towards single recording and a music video for an unfinished track, or music video funding only for finished tracks. There are 10 monthly funding rounds per year, February through to November. For more information see kiwihits.co.nz
Funding for Broadcasters
We support a variety of NZ music programmes across a wide range of broadcast outlets - commercial radio, the Student Radio Network, Kiwi FM, and music television. Queries or proposals about new shows should be emailed to the NZ Music Manager Brendan Smyth, brendan@nzonair.govt.nz
Kiwi Hit Discs
Every month we release a new collection of fresh NZ songs to every radio station in the country along with other key media outlets. This two-disc monthly collection is also featured at kiwihits.co.nz.
Australia
We promote a small number of NZ artists to assist them achieve airplay outcomes in Australia. Success there often helps success at home. For more information on international contact NZ Music Manager Brendan Smyth, brendan@nzonair.govt.nz
