Archiving

Our objective is to provide funding to The New Zealand Film Archive and Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero to archive a wide range of New Zealand television and radio broadcasts.

Both agencies provide core archiving services for television and radio, respectively.

The core archiving services include:

NZ On Air allocates around $1 million per year for archiving services, with the aim of ensuring programmes and broadcasts likely to be of historical significance to New Zealanders are preserved.

On 3 November 2004 NZ On Air convened a symposium on broadcast archiving entitled "Sound and Light". The day saw lively discussion between a group of interested parties, and a brief report on the outcomes of the symposium was compiled by symposium facilitators, Dr Roger Horrocks and Mr Brian Pauling.
